Kat’s Open Studio during Carnival Week

Textile artist, Kat Adams, of 7 Crestview Crescent, Blue Mountain Heights will open her quilt studio to visitors during Carnival of Flowers week. Opening hours are 10-4pm Friday 20th to Friday 27th September.

Some of her quilts made over the years will be on display, and she will be demonstrating how she makes her colourful and funky bags, runners and cushions. Husband Geoff will demonstrate the long-arm quilting process as well. Quilts and crafted items will be available for purchase. Admission is via a gold coin with all proceeds going to support Lifeflight. Self serve tea and coffee will be available and there is ample street parking and limited on-site disabled parking.

True Blue wall hanging quilt

“True Blue” is another wall-hanging size quilt designed by Kat of KoolKat that will be featured in her quilt exhibition as part of the Quilts, Stitches and Textiles Trail during Carnival of Flowers week this month.  The quilt features the thread painting technique and was constructed as 9 separate mini-quilts before joining together as one piece.

Many different thread colours were used in free motion quilting to give a great effect of depth, light and shade.

Simplicity and leaf meander e2e patterns

The grey cot quilt Forest Friends, was made by Raelene from St George and is being quilted with the simplicity e2e machine quilting pattern.  The second king size quilt was made by Desley from Vale View for her caravan, and is being quilted with the budget leaf meander e2e pattern.

The Art Nouveau Garden quilt.

The Art Nouveau Garden is a wall-hanging similar to Gather Ye Rosebuds in that it shows Kat’s love of batik and raw edge applique.  It is based on a work by the artist Alphonse Mucha.  This quilt was also designed as a block of the month.  The first version with the elegant figure in the centre panel proved somewhat challenging, hence a second version with a landscape panel was designed.

The sky is blue, the sea is blue.

This is another large scale quilt from Kat of KoolKat which will be on display during her open studio on the Quilts, Stitches and Textiles Trail to be held during Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba next month.

The quilt features our daughter and friend aged around 5 playing on a beach at Fraser Island.  Detailed quilting, applique, beads and shells complete this iconic scene.

Woodford Folk Festival captured in quilt

This a wall hanging called “Free” made by Kat of KoolKat Quilting based on photo taken at Woodford Folk Festival by Geoff Adams.  The quilt captures the spirit of “The Republic of Woodfordia” and features free motion quilting and skilful toning of fabrics.

The quilt will be part of Kat’s exhibition at her studio during Carnival of Flowers week as part of the Quilts, Stitches and Textiles Trail.
