Open Studio starts Friday
The quilt below comes from Hayley of Warrnambool, Victoria, and is being quilted with the budget leaf meander pattern. The bottom quilt was delivered by Margot from Blackall who is visiting Toowoomba for the Carnival of Flowers. The quilt will be ready for pickup tomorrow, and is being quilted with the dragonflies pattern.

Kat’s Bali Butterfly pattern has been the most popular of her commercial quilt patterns. It is a wall hanging and features the use of a pack of 40 Bali fabric strips 2.5 inches wide usually sold as Bali Pops, Rainbows or similar.Measuring 60 inches square (1.52m), the pattern makes an attractive wall hanging using the Bargello technique, and can decorated with glass beads for the body and wings of the butterfly.
KoolKat Quilting is part of the Quilts, Stitches and Textiles Trail during Carnival of Flowers Week. Kat’s Open Studio with her popular range of textile art and craft pieces (you can see a sneak preview of some of these at Laidley Quilt Show which finishes early this afternoon) will be featured.

See Kat of Kat’s Kool Kreations at Laidley Craft and Quilt Show at the Uniting Church Hall, Patrick Street, Laidley. The show runs until Saturday pm.
Kat’s Open Studio during Carnival Week
Textile artist, Kat Adams, of 7 Crestview Crescent, Blue Mountain Heights will open her quilt studio to visitors during Carnival of Flowers week. Opening hours are 10-4pm Friday 20th to Friday 27th September.
Kat’s open studio is part of the Quilt, Stitches and Textile Trail which includes the Toowoomba Quilters annual quilt show among other embroidery, spinning and weaving and textile art displays at various locations around Toowoomba.
Kat has been quilting and stitching for over 25 years and has produced prize winning quilts, as well as quilting for others on her long-arm quilting machines. Some of her quilts made over the years will be on display, and she will be demonstrating how she makes her colourful and funky bags, runners and cushions. Husband Geoff will demonstrate the long-arm quilting process as well. Quilts and crafted items will be available for purchase. Admission is via a gold coin with all proceeds going to support Lifeflight. Self serve tea and coffee will be available and there is ample street parking and limited on-site disabled parking.

The sky is blue, the sea is blue.
This is another large scale quilt from Kat of KoolKat which will be on display during her open studio on the Quilts, Stitches and Textiles Trail to be held during Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba next month.
The quilt features our daughter and friend aged around 5 playing on a beach at Fraser Island. Detailed quilting, applique, beads and shells complete this iconic scene.

This is Kat’s artists statement for her “What a Site” quilt for the inaugural Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery Art Quilt Prize. The quilt won Viewer’s Choice. It is a wall hanging 160 x 165 cm and features a range of techniques such as discharge dyeing and free motion quilting, and is based on a Google earth image of the museum site.

A Year in My Garden
A Year in My Garden is another of Kat’s award-winning quilts which will be exhibited as part of the Quilts, Stitches and Textiles Trail during Carnival of Flowers week next month. This wall-sized quit records the flora and fauna observed by Kat over a 12 months period outside her studio at Blue Mountain Heights. Extensive embroidery is a feature of this piece.

Our Open Studio during Carnival Week.
KoolKat will be having an Open Studio session during the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers week.
We will be part of the Quilts, Stitches and Textiles Trail.

Kat’s award winning quilts will be on display, and in order to make space for new projects, several of these will be available for purchase.
Also in Kat’s studio during Carnival Week, visitors will be able watch Kat at work producing her textile art pieces similar to the cushions above.
These feature free motion quilting, applique and wool couching.

Kat’s Kool Kreations
Kat Adams is a textile artistic with an interest in usable or wearable art. Under the label Kat’s Kool Kreations makes items ranging from table runners and place mats through to funky zip purses and bags. These feature her creativity in fabric selection and combination, and embellishment using techniques ranging from freehand wool couching, embroidery to transferring images onto fabric.
Kat’s work can be seen at on permanent display at her studio address and is available from the studio and at selected art and craft markets. Further details are available here.
